A history of uncompromising quality

Our story began in 1899 when the Swedish tailor August Stenström found himself overwhelmed with orders. His reputation as an outstanding shirt fashioner had spread in town. All the elegantly dressed men in Helsingborg wanted one of his masterpieces, and Stenström found it hard to keep up. To meet the needs of his sophisticated clients, he decided to build a shirt factory. Under Stenströms’ strict supervision, a larger number of quality shirts could now be produced.

With time, his business flourished, and word spread far and wide. More people discovered Stenströms’ garments, e.g. many of the well-travelled and demanding sea captains that sailed through the harbor of Helsingborg. Returning to their home countries dressed in Stenströms’ elegant outfits, they unknowingly helped him become a global exporter.

Still today Stenströms is internationally renowned for its pristine quality. Using only the best fabrics and trims, we craft classic and contemporary clothing. The perfect fit and feel based on 120 years of sustainable craftsmanship.

ALBERTO was founded by Dr. Albert Dormann in 1922 in Mönchengladbach. It is now run by his grandson George Walendy. The ALBERTO label has a long tradition. Ever since its beginnings, the company has been showing what it takes to design high-quality, contemporary fashion. The experience of several generations of professional workmanship united with technological innovation and a sure instinct for trends. Carefully selected materials and close attention paid to every detail. In brief: a creative process which reflects the superior nature of these pants right from the start. No more – and certainly no less.

ALBERTO, the pants and denim specialist, is energetically moving in fashion circles even in its ninetieth year. It has grown from a locally-based pants manufacturer to an international global player – all while remaining a family company.

Born in Germany, Georg began his career in fashion neckwear at the age of seventeen. He traveled throughout Europe and expanded his studies in textiles. OUR LUCKY NAME

In the early 1600s, Dutch explorers set sail to unknown parts of the world, eventually boasting the largest naval fleet on Earth. With some serious sea legs, they discovered new lands and ways of life – all the while overcoming oceans of obstacles along the way.

To protect themselves from bad luck, mariners inked tattoos of a pig and a hen on their feet because crates of pigs and hens were oftentimes the only items left floating after a shipwreck.

The sailors believed a pig and hen tattoo would help them not only survive the strongest of storms, but also allow them to float back safely to their beloved homeland.

Besides our trademark nautical rope and stainless-steel closures, it’s mainly laughter, good music and about ten pairs of skilled hands, with very diverse backgrounds, that are the main tools and materials we create our products with. “It’s a group of friends, that’s what working here feels like,” says production manager Nicky. “It’s an atmosphere that’s pretty unique.”
